Observations
The Commons is what I consider a pretty "normal" cafeteria. There
are two things that make the Commons different from the other food places on
campus. One perk is that it only requires one meal swipe to get in and eat
whatever you want and as much as you want. The other is that they have a lot of
food options, from desert to pasta to burgers. In the first picture, it shows how
things work. You tell the server what you would like, and they hand it to you
(however, there are some help-yourself sections). The second two pictures just
show two groups eating dinner. The Commons has both long tables for big
groups (in the second picture) and smaller tables for smaller groups (in the third
picture).

Question: What does the data you collect suggest to you about the literacy practices of this particular group?

What I noticed from observing the Commons, was that almost everyone sat with a group of people. There were a couple tables of just two or three, but most had larger groups of friends. I didn't see anyone sitting alone. This might suggest that those who don't have someone to eat dinner with or those who choose to eat alone don't usually go to the Commons. They might go to the Husky and bring it back to their room instead.
When I looked at my time diaries, I saw that all three of the students ate dinner at the Commons, but only one ate lunch there. Maybe less people ate lunch in the Commons because they only have a limitted amount of time to eat lunch between class, whereas they have more time to sit down and eat in the Commons around dinner time.
